Yeah, last round I wasted like 2000 creds on one attempt the same way.
On the other hand, I have also discovered an offline home hi combo that works pretty well by accidentally hitting the hi button instead of the boost button. It's pretty funny to think you're stealing a car and find you've Hi'd them instead. I did it a couple times by mistake and now use it on purpose, lol.
